Three motions were filed by Bill Rausch's defense attorney on April 7. It gives insight on how she intends to defend Bill against the allegation of sex assault and it's... well... a mess. First, Bill's lawyer intends to broadcast details of the victim's sexual history - a tactic she used at Bill's recent civil hearing that failed spectacularly in court. This is a cheap tactic that appears to be designed to intimidate the victim and has no bearing on the assault in question.
She also floats the idea that the victim had a crush on Bill and that the reason she made up the assault was because... she was caught with a beer in the office? That doesn't come close to explaining why Bill hid under the desk when the assault was interrupted. Or why he lost his job over it. Nor does it explain the five other women who have come forward.
The lawyer also hopes to exclude evidence the government found concerning the time Bill pushed the victim down the steps on the Metro escalator. He could have killed her. Luckily all she ended up with was a bruise and a torn dress.
Bill faces up to 20 years if convicted.
